[World's Longest Suspension Bridge Connects Europe And Asia poster]
The world’s longest suspension bridge, Çanakkale 1915 located over the Dardanelles Strait, is a true infrastructural achievement. It joins European and Asian continents within Turkey eliminating the traditional ferry ride that would take about one and half hours.
Sitting at 2,023 meters (6,637 feet) between those two towers, the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge is now the biggest suspension bridge in the world.
“Turkey outrun Japan, having the longest bridge in the world with respect to the midspan, and is on the top,” said President Erdogan, AP News reported. The construction of the bridge lasted almost five years and involved Turkish and South Korean companies to create better ties between the two countries and cost about $ 2.7 billion (£2.06 billion). Today, it is the only motorway in Turkey that connects both Europe and Asia outside Istanbul and the travel itself can be made in just 6 minutes.
As the same example, the bridge connects the European side Gelibolu and the Asian side from Lapseki. Its name, 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, refers to its homonymous eponym, which was both a naval battle between the Ottoman Empire and British forces during the First World War as well as an attempt to turn the Dardanelles strait into Britan’s.
